For Love and Money is an edited audio recording from a retreat with Leslie Temple-Thurston
(Recorded Live in Portland, Oregon).

Authentic abundance is not just having money and material possessions. It is also about having abundant love in our lives. Love and money are one and the same energy, and they come to us in great abundance when we peel away the limiting patterns of egoic programming and learn to live in the continuous flow of divine presence.

When we are able to bring that flow through us, it solidifies in the world around us into substance, including material things. Money is the visible sign of this universal energy. Because the outer world is just a mirror of our inner state, when we are all filled up inside, the outer world is all filled up, too. It is like a wellspring that bubbles up inside the body, like a wave that never ever stops or ends.

In this four-day retreat Leslie leads us on a voyage of discovery, focusing on two main aspects of opening to the flow: 1) exploring the new energy dynamic that is birthing in the world—that of abundant love, generosity and heart-centered consciousness, and 2) examining from a higher perspective some of the limiting patterns that block us from living a life of authentic abundance. With these two approaches, we learn how to open to the flow of divine presence.

Through Leslie’s inspiring discourses and lively question-and-answer sessions, which address a wide spectrum of topics related to love and money—from the practical to the esoteric—we are lovingly brought through an extraordinary course in the teachings of non-duality.

This retreat is much more than just the dissemination of information. Leslie not only distills more than a decade of her own lessons on living in the flow of authentic abundance, but she also offers a deep and profound initiation into new alignments in consciousness.

Some of the specific topics addressed in the Portland version of For Love and Money are:

  • Integrating schisms between: inside-outside, unity-duality, conscious-unconscious, withholding-generosity
  • A detailed list of the states of being that are part of the system of flow and how to live in that system
  • The oscillating, dualistic, “on-off” system, in which our fortunes wax and wane, and how to transcend it
  • Glamorizing and deifying things on the outside, such as success, money and sex, but these are really your own inner light
  • The anatomy of your energy system, including: how the system of projection works, how we veil the light from ourselves, how negative and positive states originate at the “splitter mechanism” in the third-eye, and how the heart chakra is like a valve that opens and closes with negative and positive stimuli but is open all the time in the new paradigm of flow
  • How to move beyond the walls of ego, which are made of fear
  • The neutral witness: discerning when you are in it or in ego, developing it brings many benefits, the difference between it and the judge/inner parent, witnessing the cycles of change and major themes of our lives/patterns
  • Transcending the erroneous belief in lack and scarcity
  • Coming out of the spiritual closet
  • Everything in time turns into its opposite
  • The luminous core is a state of balance, grace, inspiration, unconditional love and faith.
  • The defining characteristic of the flow is generosity.
  • Damming up the flow by hoarding, accumulating and possessing
  • Sharing, giving, letting go
  • Money as a tyrant
  • Money is bound up in our survival—in our bodies and in our self-importance.
  • We can manifest in a yin way, without physical action.
  • The revolutionary wave of the future is about generosity, giving and offering selfless service.
  • The Fall, separation, negative-positive, spin and limitation. We “sign up” before we incarnate in these bodies to live in the system of limitation.
  • Discernment about when not to give
  • Receiving and asking
  • Manifesting grace in your life
  • Debt and worrying about money
  • Inspiring stories of how the flow comes by using the mantra, “shring”, which is the mantra of Lakshmi, the goddess of love, money, perfection and beauty
  • This download set includes a beautiful ten-minute chant of the “shring” mantra with musical accompaniment.
  • Write up of the Generosity and Withholding Square processed during the live intensive.

Available to download as MP3s.

Because this retreat was recorded live on audio tape in 1998, the sound quality varies from day to day. We have digitally re-mastered and improved the sound quality as much as possible throughout, and yet you may notice some sections are not as high quality as others due to the nature of the original recording. We have also edited the original recording to be as concise as possible, and so you may notice some sections in which the subject changes more abruptly than it would have in the original recording.

Leslie also led a retreat by the same title in Marin County, California in 1997. While the general theme is the same at both retreats, the information presented was quite different. There is some overlap, but to get all of the information we highly recommend listening to both intensive recordings.

Quotes by Leslie from For Love and Money (Portland version):

“I want you to let in the notion that money, or as we may call it here—prosperity or abundance—is a state of being rather than a form which we hold outside of ourselves.”

“Someone who really is successful financially or successful in love has got something else going for them as well…. So what is that something else? That’s what we’re going to be looking at…what it is and how to cultivate it, because you can never have too much of it.”

“The conditioning into separation—that isolated, cut-off state—definitely affects one’s ability to find and give love…. The degree of separation that one has been conditioned into will have a lot to do with whether you find financial success and love in your life.”

”Money is love energy densified. The more that core energy, which is pure love, comes through, the more you will draw to yourself.”

“We are being asked to give and be generous. It’s the birth of a new kind of human being.”

“The radical, complete change from a caterpillar into a butterfly is the perfect symbol of what opening to the flow is—it is that transformation.”

“Living in the flow is the willingness to let the flow move through you and out into the world in whatever form it takes, whether it solidifies into material things or money or your most cherished ideas. Know that they will come back. You will be filled up again. Generosity multiplies. It’s like love: It multiplies; it doesn’t divide.”

“To the extent that you still have a piece of yourself in the old paradigm, you will create past experiences to repeat themselves, but where you’re able to act from the flow, they won’t.”

“Money, sex and food are some of our most highly charged issues. These wonderful things in life were not put here to tempt us, necessarily, or to corrupt us. They were put here for the enjoyment of life and for us to learn how to be balanced with them…. If [these issues] and all the other things we get addicted to are all distorted, you won’t wake up. You won’t realize your full potential. So I’m giving this teaching so that you can undo all your funny, cranky, distorted ideas about money and about love, and get on track with the truth that moves through you—the flow that enlivens your body, your life, your expression, your power to manifest.”

”If you wish to experience a flow coming back to you, which will make you feel fulfilled and abundant, it’s got to start inside of you. If you’re in an inner flow of abundance, the mirror from the outside will be of a flow of abundance…. What really gets people stuck is that they feel that they can withhold inside themselves, but they still expect the outside to mirror the generosity back to them. We call that ‘making a profit.’”

”The flow, by definition, is something that moves. When I was given this teaching, it was made very, very clear to me that I should not try to dam up the flow anywhere at all, that I don’t own this flow, nor do I own the fruits of it. That’s the rich man trying to get through the eye of the needle. I don’t try to possess this flow; in fact, the more hands-off I am, the less I try to control it, the more I surrender, the more it will move through. And I was told very clearly, ‘Don’t try to dam the flow, because then it will stop moving.’ In its movement is its energy and its dynamism…. Let go. Don’t try to own it.”
