SUBMISSION MASTER

The Submission Master Grappling Dummy is the gold standard for your grappling needs. The quality that you get out of the dummy is unmatched! This submission dummy is one of the leaders in the market today and for good reason!

Grappling dummies are crucial if you want to improve your ground game. Whether you practice MMA or BJJ, it is essential to drill consistently. As the great Bruce Lee once said: “I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times”

And that’s what it comes down to! Drilling! If you want to improve your Jiu Jitsu game, you must constantly drill your moves, practice your positions transitions, and lock down your submissions. You need to practice your moves thousands of times until it becomes second nature to you!

The main problem that you might run into when drilling is your training partner. The thing about Jiu Jitsu is that you NEED a training partner to practice your moves on! Well, what if you don’t have one readily available for you? What if you are caught up with school or work that you can’t make it to your 6 o’clock class?

That’s where the grappling dummy comes in! If you can’t make it to class and can’t find a training partner, you need yourself a good grappling dummy to practice your moves on!

This article highlights the Submission Master Grappling Dummy and why it is considered one of the best grappling dummies in the market today.

FEATURES REVIEWED

The Submission Master Grappling Dummy has a ton of features that make it an excellent training dummy for you. But what makes it such a great dummy compared to others in the market? Let’s take a look at some of its excellent features.

POSITIONAL FEATURES

The grappling dummy is positioned at a kneeling position, with the thighs pinched close together. The body of the dummy is hunched forward with the chest in line with the knees. The arms of the dummy are extended out in front of the chest.

The great thing about how the dummy is positioned is that it allows you to practice your moves both from the top position or from the bottom guard position easily. This makes the grappling dummy one of the most realistic dummies to practice with!

MATERIAL FEATURES

The Submission Master Grappling Dummy is made of 1000 Denier Cordura, an extremely heavy duty nylon-urethane material. This material has excellent tear strength, making it the ideal dummy that can take a good beating! The dummy is also has its seams machine sewn with multiple stitching for extreme durability.

Another great feature about the material is that it is water resistant, so you don’t have to worry about it when you are sweating buckets during practice!

The dummy does come in a little bit stiff initially but after a breakdown period it becomes much easier to deal with! One of the best features of the dummy is that it is very flexible. While it is holding its arms and legs in position, you are able to practice your moves without lifting them in place.

After completing your set, the arms and legs return back to its original position! This is an excellent feature as this give you more time on your reps and less time setting the dummy back up!

PHYSICAL FEATURES

The dummy weighs about 85 pounds but might feel a bit heavier due to its dead weight. It’s about the size of 6 ft. tall person when laid out flat. These features make it a great dummy for taller practitioners. Just like any larger dummies in the market, shorter people may find it challenging a little challenging, but it does have its knees bent a bit so that does make a bit of a difference.

TRAINING WITH THE SUBMISSION MASTER

The submission master grappling dummy is an excellent tool to accelerate your BJJ game! You can either dress it up with a Gi if you want to practice Gi-Techniques or leave it off if you want to practice No-Gi. Since it is a larger sized dummy, it would be ideal to get a Gi that would fit a 6 foot tall person. An A2 or A3 size should suffice depending on where you purchase it from. If you do decide to get a Gi specifically for the dummy, you can probably get a less expensive Gi for it. Once you got that, you’re ready to train! Here’s a few ways you can train with your dummy:

SOLO PRACTICE DRILLS WITH YOUR DUMMY

Guard Passing – While the grappling dummy is flat on its back, it does have its knees up and hands up, making it mimic what a partner would do to prevent your pass. With this position, you are able to practice your Toreando guard passing drills, knee slide passes, and pressure passes!

Side Control Positions – The dummy is great for side control positions. By placing one of its arm between your armpit and hugging down behind its neck, you are able to do a traditional side mount hold. You are also able to do side control variations like scarf holds or pop-up to a knee mount!

Full Mount – With the back flat on the mat, you are able to practice full mount attacks, positional transitions, and submissions easily.

Closed Guard – One of the greatest features of the Submission Master Grappling Dummy is its ability to mimic the closed guard. You can either be inside its guard or it can be in yours. Here you can practice moves getting out of his closed guard. You are also able to drill several sweeps and submission attacks from your close guard as well! Practice those triangles, arm locks, omoplatas, and chokes! You can now rep out multiple submissions without ripping your training partners arm off!

Turtle Guard Training – Due to its stiff joints and how its positioned, the dummy can actually hold itself up on a turtle position. Since this position is one of the less frequent positions you get into, it’s a great opportunity to train your movements. You can get in front of it for a guillotine or jump over it to take the back!

Leg Locks – Since the Submission Master is both durable and flexible, you are able to get a bit of resistance and you are also able to stretch them out. This makes it an ideal partner for leg lock training! You can now practice those toe holds and ankle locks without risking breaking your partner’s foot!

CONCLUSION

Jiu Jitsu takes a lot of practice to improve your game. Drilling is extremely important. You need to practice consistently, drilling your moves thousands of times over and over again until you become proficient! Good luck trying to find a partner you can drill a thousand arm bars on! Sometimes you aren’t able to find partners or aren’t able to make it to the gym. Grappling dummies are great alternatives for your training!

The Submission Master Grappling Dummy is easily one of the best choices in the market. It has strived to outperform any of the competitor brands. It has several positive features and only a few negative ones. Let’s review:

PROS:

  • Extremely Durable – With the heavy-duty material design and reinforced stitching, the grappling dummy can take a beating for your heavy training sessions, without the risk of breaking

  • Flexibility – The dummy can contort to your desired positions as you need it, and goes back to its original positions, allowing more reps and less setup time

  • Great For Drilling – With the dummy’s positioning, it makes it much easier to drill your moves and submissions, giving you a more realistic training session

CONS:

  • Stiffness – The downside of being extremely durable is that your dummy will be stiff when it first comes in. There is a bit of a breakdown period with Submission Master until it loosens up

  • Size – The dummy is a bit large at 6 feet so it is much more suitable for taller people

  • Weight – The dummy is also a bit heavy at 85 lbs of dead weight, so that will definitely take some getting used to if you are lighter in weight

The price of the Submission Master is roughly around $600. That is a bit hefty price tag attached to it but the quality you get out of it is simply outmatched. There are a few cheaper options out there if this price tag is too extreme. Here’s a few from Amazon, check it out!
